Popular Bangladeshi actress Rafiath Rashid Mithila has joined Columbia University's Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research as an Associate Research Scientist.
She announced the appointment in a Facebook post yesterday (1 October).
In her new role, Mithila will lead and support the design and evaluation of the Early Childhood and Family Hub, a place-based initiative focused on early childhood development, family engagement, and community health in New York.
The initiative connects children from birth to age five and their families with essential resources and supportive environments to help them thrive.
Mithila said she would bring her experience in global development to Columbia University to align community priorities with research goals and generate evidence to support evidence-based programmes.
Alongside her research role, she has also joined the City University of New York (CUNY) as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, where she will teach nonprofit management and introduce students to real-world practices in the nonprofit sector.
Mithila currently heads the Department of Early Childhood Development at BRAC International. She expressed gratitude to BRAC for shaping her professional journey. She spent two decades with the organisation, including 15 years working in international development with BRAC International.
Mithila has been active in acting for around 18–19 years. She received the Maitreyee Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Mayaa at the Telangana Bengali Film Festival.
