Marvel reveals David Jonsson as new Black Panther
The actor will play an older version of T’Challa’s son, whose existence was revealed at the end of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Marvel Studios has confirmed that "Black Panther 3" will arrive in cinemas on 15 December 2028, with David Jonsson taking on the role of T'Challa's adult son and becoming the next Black Panther.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler made the announcement during the studio's panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday (25 July), also confirming that the film will be shot on 70mm, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Jonsson appeared on stage after the announcement and thanked the cast and crew for welcoming him to the franchise. The audience responded with loud cheers, while many fans chanted "Wakanda".

The 2022 film disclosed that the late Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa had a young son with Nakia, played by Lupita Nyong'o. Marvel has not explained how the character will appear as an adult in the new film.
Jonsson has emerged as one of Hollywood's rising stars after appearing in "Alien: Romulus", "The Long Walk" and the first two seasons of "Industry".
The Black Panther franchise began with the 2018 film starring Boseman as T'Challa. The cast included Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett.
The film earned $1.3 billion at the global box office and became the first superhero film to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Marvel had planned a sequel with Boseman before he died in 2020 following a private battle with colon cancer.
The studio then shifted the story to Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, who became the new Black Panther after T'Challa's death. "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", released in 2022, earned more than $850 million worldwide. The film received five Academy Award nominations and won one Oscar. Bassett also became the first actor to receive an Academy Award nomination for a performance in a Marvel film.
