Cate Blanchett and Selena Gomez to star in Brady Corbet's film
Oscar winner Cate Blanchett and actor-singer Selena Gomez are set to lead the cast of director Brady Corbet's upcoming feature film, joining Michael Fassbender in a highly anticipated, genre-defying project.
The casting news emerged at the Cannes Film Festival, where Blanchett let the detail slip during a masterclass. Industry outlets have since confirmed that both Gomez and Fassbender will co-star in the highly confidential production.
Corbet, riding high after the critical success of his Oscar-winning drama The Brutalist, is planning a sprawling historical narrative. Although specific plot details are being closely guarded, the filmmaker has previously expressed his ambition to create a mature, "X-rated" feature. The story will reportedly span from the 19th century to the modern era, whilst focussing predominantly on the 1970s.
Emphasising its grand cinematic scale, the drama will be captured using exceptionally rare eight-perf 65mm cameras. The project is expected to be a monumental undertaking; its 200-page screenplay already hints at a running time that could surpass The Brutalist's three and a half hours. Andrew Morrison is attached to produce the feature under the Kaplan Morrison banner.
