Bangladeshi documentary 'Silent Verdict' selected for Bulgaria’s Golden Femi Film Festival
The short documentary by a Dhaka University student highlights unresolved cases of sexual violence in Bangladesh and calls for justice through cinematic storytelling
A short documentary titled 'Silent Verdict', directed by Dhaka University student Sakib Hossain, has been officially selected for the Golden Femi Film Festival 2026 in Bulgaria.
The film, produced by students of the university's Television, Film and Photography (TFP) Department, previously won the Best Documentary award at the Creative Excellence Awards organised by TFP Film Club in February this year.
'Silent Verdict' focuses on incidents of rape and murder involving women and children in Bangladesh over the years, including widely discussed cases such as Tonu and Asiya. Through its narrative, the documentary calls for fair and effective justice for victims.
Director Sakib Hossain believes that resistance is not limited to street protests alone. "Protest and resistance can also be built through the frames of cinema or the camera in our hands," he said.
The documentary was produced with contributions from TFP students Sadman Kabir Sadab, Ishrat Tasnim and Shakhi Sikder, who worked as producer and assistant producers on the project.
