Asha Bhosle admitted to ICU in Mumbai after cardiac arrest

India's legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a Mumbai hospital tonight (11 April) following a cardiac arrest and pulmonary complications.

Asha Bhosle's granddaughter Zanai Bhosle posted on Instagram that her grandmother "due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection, has been admitted to hospital."
Zanai asked the people to "value our privacy. Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively."
Born on 8 September 1933, Bhosle remains one of the most versatile voices in Indian music, with a career spanning more than seven decades. The younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar, she carved out a distinct identity through her extraordinary range, effortlessly traversing classical-based melodies, cabaret numbers, pop, ghazals and folk songs.
Over the decades, she has lent her voice to thousands of songs in Hindi cinema as well as in numerous regional languages. Her collaborations with composers such as RD Burman, OP Nayyar and Khayyam produced many enduring hits.
Among her most memorable songs are "Piya Tu Ab To Aaja" from Caravan, "Dum Maro Dum" from Hare Rama Hare Krishna, "In Aankhon Ki Masti" from Umrao Jaan, "Yeh Mera Dil" from Don, and "Chura Liya Hai Tumne" from Yaadon Ki Baaraat.
