5 shows that only 90s and 2000s kids remember

This pandemic period has been stressful for all of us. The fear of being infected by the virus, the gloomy economy, the uncertainty of education, the future job prospects and social isolation have taken a toll on everyone's mental health.

However, during the three months of shutdown, I spent a lot of time reminiscing the old days of my childhood. If you are a late 90s or early 2000s kid like me, you probably also spent your early days watching Cartoon Network and had an amazing childhood.

While the CW network had so many enjoyable cartoons, I managed to narrow it down to five shows that bring in the nostalgia till this date.

1. Pokemon

If you remember the song "Jenny oh Jenny, Joy oh Joy", your childhood was perfect. If you were born in the late 1990s or the early 2000s, you have surely watched Pokemon while growing up.

Pokemon was one of the most successful Anime franchises. It followed the life of the 10-year-old Ash Ketchum who went on a journey to become the greatest Pokemon master in the world.

On his quest, Ash met Misty and Brock, who joined him in his journey and became my favourite trio after Harry, Ron and Hermione.

I still remember every single episode of the initial seasons, starting from Brock's obsession with Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy, Jigglypuff's singing, Charizard's laziness, Team Rocket "blasting away again" and Misty shouting at Psyduck for being useless.

The opening and closing songs of Pokemon are something I still listen to from time to time and the lyrics actually motivate me to work harder. Even though the current season of Pokemon has lost the old charm, I can watch the old episodes again and again without getting tired and this is one of the shows I have been binge watching during the covid-19 shutdown.

2. Dragon Ball Z

Another show I was obsessed with as a child is Dragon Ball Z. The show followed Goku and his friends as they fought to keep the planet Earth safe from all kinds of evil.

Everybody was in love with Goku and his funny antics with food and needles, ChiChi scaring Goku and Bulma slapping Master Roshi for his sleazy flirting. This show made us eternally wish for the dragon balls and to have three of our wishes fulfilled.

This cartoon taught me a very important lesson at a very early age. Nobody is born evil. We become evil with time due to the influence of our surroundings but everybody should be given a second chance.

If Goku did not give a second chance and believed the good in people, we could have never witnessed the golden characters of Vegeta and Piccolo. Goku and the other Z fighters still live in our hearts and this show is also a great binge during the lockdown.

3. Scooby-Doo

When I talk about classics, there cannot be anything better than Scooby-Doo. The cartoon followed the lives of four teenagers along with Shaggy's pet dog Scooby, who used to solve crimes every day.

The show usually ended with the gang catching the criminal who explained his/her motives behind the crime and the common dialogue: And I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling kids.

Over the years, we saw many spin-offs and movies mushrooming from the show, but nothing can ever beat the original plot.

4. Tom and Jerry

Everyone born after the 1960s have watched Tom and Jerry. With the help of this show, my mother used to distract the three-year-old me when I did not want to eat.

The plot of the show was very light and funny and can change your mood instantly if you are having a bad day. We never got tired of Tom making ridiculous plans to catch Jerry while failing every single time.

5. Winx Club

Winx Club was a fan favourite show among all the girls born in the 2000s. It followed the life of an earthling named Bloom, who attended the magical school of Alfea after discovering that she was a fairy.

There, she met her five best friends and their journey began. This show made me fall in love with the concept of friendship. It made me believe that there is actually one soulmate out there for all of us.

The dresses, the opening and closing songs, the friendship between Winx and the fight with the evil Trix were a treat for my eight-year-old self.

Other than these shows, Dexter's Laboratory, Looney Tunes, Dragon Tales, Justice League, Ben 10 and Johnny Bravo are some of the shows worth being mentioned in this list. These shows made our childhood better and happier.
