One dead, two injured in stampede as crowd rushes to join iftar at Rohingya camp

One person lost his life, and two others were injured in a stampede at a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar this afternoon (14 March) as a crowd of refugees rushed to join an Iftar programme arranged on the occasion of a visit by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The incident took place at around 2:30pm near the helipad area of the camp, Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhamamd Arif Hossain confirmed to The Business Standard.
"Three people were injured in a stampede after falling down the slope of a hill as they rushed to attend the Iftar," he said.
The three were sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment. There on arrival, on-duty doctors declared Neyamat Ullah dead, said OC Arif.
Neyamat Ullah, son of late Sabi Miyan, was a resident of Camp-20, he said.
The two injured were identified as Camp-20 residents Asmat Ullah, 16, son of Asad Ullah, and Kalim Ullah, 62, son of Bashir Ahmed, the OC said. They are undergoing treatment at the Sadar Hospital.
