Mumbai police installed a rigged traffic light system to tackle the problem of 'reckless honkers'
Waiting at a traffic signal for the red signal to turn green is frustrating. But it is also necessary to keep the whole city running.
However, the drivers in South Asia tend to believe that if they honk the horn loud enough, the traffic lights will surely change to green.
Mumbai police came up with a new system to punish those who cannot wait at traffic lights in silence, reports the Guardian.

The new system, said the police, was quite simple: "Honk more, wait more." They installed a rigged traffic light system to tackle the problem of "reckless honkers".
Every time the sound of car horns goes above 85 decibels, the red traffic signal is reset. For ''honk-happy drivers'', it could mean a very long wait at the lights.
The idea, which was trialled in November and December, got a massive response across India. And there is talk of rolling it out in other cities.
A video with hashtag #HonkResponsibly was published in Mumbai police's verified twitter page with the caption "Horn not okay, please!" It showed the new system in action.
