Bangkok: A destination for gastronomy dining

If you are a food fanatic and travel connoisseur, Bangkok is among the best options available for you to explore. When it comes to fine-dining, do not miss out on visiting top-ranked restaurants of the city.

‘Gaggan’ and ‘Sühring’ are two of such restaurants listed on the San Pellegrino Asia 50 Best Restaurant Awards.

Anand Gaggan, chef and owner of Gaggan -- placed 3rd for the third consecutive year -- started his eponymous restaurant in 2010 in the Thai capital with the aim to reinvigorate Indian cuisine by twisting traditional and contemporary techniques of Indian cooking, transforming them into something that is more ‘progressive.’

“It is different because it doesn't look the same, it doesn't feel the same, it doesn't scent the same,” Gaggan said after receiving his latest accolade.

“But if you are from Kolkata, and you put it in your mouth and close your eyes, it’s a brief flight to the street there, and you are getting the same flavor that you were raised on.

“That has been my foundation of cooking -- eating in the streets and celebrating life in India,” the chef further added.

With three full-length menus offering more than enough exquisite dishes to satisfy the taste buds of a fine-dining connoisseur, some of the must-try dishes include ‘Made in Japan,’ ‘Portuguese Connection’, ‘Down to Earth’, ‘Keema Pav’ and last but not the least ‘Street Eats from India.’

Who does not enjoy some hearty dessert after an overwhelmingly delicious meal? And for that, Gaggan has some of the best desserts one can try out in Bangkok.

If you are the one to try out traditional dishes wherever you go, ‘Mom’s Love’ is one of the items you will not want to miss out on. This dish boasts a decadent carrot mouse with saffron, concealed with a layer of hundred percent silver foil.

Situated on 68/1 Soi Langsuan Ploenchit road, the restaurant features reservations, private dining, parking facilities, wheelchair access, a full bar, and table services, which are sure to put the guest in a mood of pure bliss and tranquility.

In case you are looking for a restaurant that serves food that you as South East Asian are less familiar with, Sühring is one of the restaurants that combine the essence of traditional dishes with contemporary Central European influences.

Sühring, a restaurant that showcases the best of modern German fare inspired by childhood memories, family recipes and years of traveling experience, is the brainchild of Thomas and Mathias.

After working in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Thailand for years, the duo decided to settle down in a charming 1970’s villa situated in the heart of Bangkok - where they reinvented the ways German gastronomy cuisine works.

The menu hosts an extensive and exquisite array of dishes that reflect the chefs' philosophy of quality, seasonality, and simplicity.

Owing to the menu is as extensive as it is, the menu has been simplified to help you figure out what items are a must try. Two of their highly praised main dishes are catfish preserved in olive oil, served with peas and beans on a bed of aromatic herbs.

The other one happens to be a lamb saddle cooked on the bone, served with beans of the season with a light sprinkling of saffron and served on a bed of aromatic herbs.

If these two dishes do not cut it for you, their signature dish is Smoked Cod with Braised Cucumber and Black Forest Ham.

Keep some space in your stomach for two of Sühring’s raved about desserts -- carrot served with sea buckthorn, nougat and goat cheese, and their rhubarb strawberry cheesecake.

One of the most riveting things about Sühring’s menu is that it changes according to the season and ingredients passing through the kitchen.

Find Sühring at No.10, Yen Akat Soi 3, Bangkok.
