Current nets, jatka worth Tk 4.5cr seized in Bagerhat
A mobile court seized 12 lakh meters of banned current nets and 7,200 kilogrammes of jatka [hilsa fry] worth around Tk4.5 crore from the Balweswar River in the early hours of today (17 November).
Earlier, a team of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) arrested 10 fishermen from two engine trawlers--'FB Sabuj' and 'FB Mayer Doa'-- from the river around 4am.
The mobile court, led by Morelganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Nazmul Islam, also fined the arrested fishermen Tk500 each.

The court destroyed the banned current nets in presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer Ranjit Kumar and local people.
The seized fish were later distributed among 15 local orphanages and poor people in the district, Officer of Shoronkhola West Zone Coast Guard Monzur Hossain confirmed.
