Jailed former planning minister and former member of parliament of Sunamganj-3 constituency MA Mannan has been hospitalised again following a checkup due to his ailing health.

He was taken to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital today (8 October) where doctors recommended that he be hospitalised, Sylhet Central Jail's Jailer Sakhawat Hossain Rubel told The Business Standard.

He has been admitted to the medicine department, Dr Soumitra Chakrabarty, deputy director of the hospital said.

"The former planning minister is suffering from chest pain. Besides, his diabetes is not under control. After the examination, he was admitted. A request has been made to constitute a medical board for his treatment," Dr Soumitra said.

Mannan was earlier hospitalised on 5 October at the same hospital after falling ill in jail.

He was sent to jail on 20 September following his arrest from his home in Shantiganj upazila of Sunamganj on the night of 19 September in a case filed over an attack on students in Sunamganj city on 4 August during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

A person named Hafiz Ahmad, a resident of Dowarabazar upazila of the district, filed the case with Sadar Model Police Station on 2 September under the Speedy Trial Act.

Ninety-nine people including MA Mannan were accused in this case.

The case mentions that the plaintiff's brother, student Zahoor Ahmad, was injured in the attack.
