The Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) authorities have suspended 19 students for their alleged involvement in various misconduct including skeleton trade, usurping hostel seats, ragging, extortion, carrying arms and torturing intern doctors.

At the same time, they have been barred from all academic activities, including classes and exams, for a period of 6 months to 1 year.

Another student, Sajib Akand, was reprimanded and is required to submit a bond in the presence of a guardian.

All the 20 students are leaders and activists of Chhatra League, according to college sources.

The college authorities also decided to impose disciplinary measures on 12 faculty members for failing to address these student misconduct issues. Six of these teachers have been barred from academic activities, while recommendations for the transfer of the remaining six have been sent to the Education Ministry.

These decisions were taken in an academic council meeting of the medical college yesterday (1 October).

Professor Dr Khandkar Faisal Alam, principal of Rajshahi Medical College, said student from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement had filed complaints against 34 teachers and 44 students.

"In response, two investigation committees were formed to look into these allegations. Based on the findings of the investigation, the academic council has taken disciplinary action against those individuals whose misconduct was proven," he added.
