United Commercial Bank PLC appoints new MD and CEO

Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, a seasoned professional with over three decades of experience in the financial services sector, has recently been appointed as the Managing Director & CEO of United Commercial Bank PLC.

Mamdud's wealth of experience, most recently as the Managing Director & CEO of NCC Bank PLC, where he played a pivotal role in driving the bank's growth, expanding its foreign trade portfolio, and enhancing its reputation in the banking industry, instils confidence in his leadership. Under his guidance, NCC Bank achieved several milestones, including recognition as the Best Primary Dealer by Bangladesh Bank and being awarded as the Fastest Growing Brand in 2023 by Global Brand Magazine. His strategic direction also led to the successful introduction of Islamic Banking.

Mamdud's distinguished banking career began in 1995 with Citibank-Bangladesh and spans leadership roles across Bangladesh, India, and Australia. His expertise covers various functions, including Business, Credit, Finance, Risk, Operations, Compliance, Human Resources, and General Services.

In previous roles, Mamdud served as Additional Managing Director at UCB and BRAC Bank. He led Wholesale Banking at BRAC Bank and held senior positions such as Strategic Head for SME business and Chief Financial Officer. During his 15-year tenure with Citibank, he was Head of Strategic Planning for Citibank's institutional banking business in Australia and New Zealand and served as Chief Operating Officer for Citibank-Bangladesh. 

He also held the position of Group CFO for BRAC and BRAC International.

Mamdud's educational achievements are a testament to his dedication and expertise. He earned an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, where he was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Gold Medal. He also holds an MA in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University, USA, as a Fulbright Scholar. His professional development includes extensive training both domestically and internationally in leadership and technical skills, further enhancing his knowledge and expertise in the financial services sector.   

In addition to his banking career, Mamdud taught Finance at IBA and served as a Merchant Mariner, earning the President's Gold Medal at the Marine Academy in 1985.
