The deceased were identified as Habil Gaji (60), Faruque Hossain (40), Asmat Ali (50), Hamidur Rahman (55), Nur Islam Khoka (55), Narayan (55). All of them hailed from Jhikargacha upazila of the district.

After being informed, police have visited the residence of the deceased on Tuesday night.

All of them died at their respective residences, said police.

During police visit for inquiry, the relatives of the deceased claimed that those six people died of illness. They had been suffering from various heart diseases. The relatives also presented the death certificates issued from the hospital, to the police members.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhikargacha Police station, Md Abdur Razzak said, "The relatives of the deceased showed clearance paper issued from the hospital. So I can not give any statement about this case."

But the OC confirmed that one of the deceased, Habil was an alcohol dealer.

"Habil was arrested a few months ago for dealing alcohol," he said.

SK Rajibul Islam, doctor of Jhikargacha upazila health complex said that none of those six people died in health complex

"But three people were admitted here who fell ill due to alcohol poisoning," he said.

These three people were Ripon Das (40), Kishore Kumar (32) and Selim Hossain (34). Madhab Das (40), another admitted person, was transferred to Jashore General Hospital.

In April, at least 17 people died in Jashore city and suburbs, Manirampur and Chougachha upazilas due to poisonous or adulterated alcohol.

Ripon das's wife Sita Rani Das and son Bishnu Das informed that the deceased and the ill people bought alcohol from a Mintu of Purondorpur village and drank it.
