Students of Jahangirnagar University have brought out a procession protesting the killing of former organising secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League's JU Unit Shamim Ahmed alias Shamim Molla, who was killed in a mob lynching yesterday (18 September).

The students brought out the procession under the banner of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at 11am today (19 September).

Starting from the Central Shaheed Minar premises, the procession made a round of important roads of the campus and ended in front of the Administrative Building with a short rally.

During the rally, the speakers presented a 3-point demand, including punishment of Shamim's killers, filing of a case against those who attacked students and teachers on 15 July and 17 July keeping the university administration as plaintiff and banning all kinds of student, teacher and employee politics in the campus.

At the rally, Central Coordinator of the movement Arif Sohel said, "Shamim was a BCL cadre who had led the attacks on students on 15 July. But beating him to death can't be supported in any way. Our fellow brothers and sisters did not lay down their lives so that some people can kill someone else using the tag of BCL."

Earlier, Shamim was beaten up by the university students yesterday (18 September) afternoon. He died while undergoing treatment at a Savar Hospital.

On Wednesday afternoon, the university students beat up Shamim for allegedly leading an attack on protesting students at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on the night of 15 July.

When he was later brought to the proctor's office, angry students attacked him again.

Proctor AKM Rashidul Alam stated that during initial questioning at the proctor's office, Shamim admitted his involvement in the attack on students and revealed the names of other accomplices to the police.

He was handed over to Ashulia Police Station around 8:30pm, after which police admitted him to Savar Gonoshasthaya Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
