The members Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today (18 September) visited the torture cell of prime accused Azmery Osman, nephew of former AL lawmaker Shamim Osman, in the gruesome murder of Tanvir Muhammad Taqi, a 17-year-old student of ABC International School, in Narayanganj.

Accompanied by one of the accused, Shafayet Hossain Shipon, RAB officials toured the location in the presence of media representatives.

RAB arrested Shafayet Hossain Shipon, along with another accused Mamun Mia, from Chasara area in Narayanganj on 8 September.

They were initially placed on six-day remand each, at the end of which they were placed on fresh three-day remand on Sunday (15 September).

During the visit, the RAB team inspected the former torture cell of Azmery Osman, which has since been converted into a multi-storey building.

They also visited the Kumudini Canal area of the Shitalakshya River, where Taqi's body was dumped.

After the visit, RAB Company Commander Tanvir Mahmud Pasha said five new suspects were arrested in connection with the case.

He revealed that one of the accused had given a confessional statement, and interrogations of the others had yielded significant information.

Pasha also noted that the notorious "Winner Fashion" torture cell of Azmery Osman had been replaced by a modern multi-storey building.

Accused Shipon had provided significant information during his remand period, he said, adding that RAB the team visited the crime scene with the suspect and found some of his information to align with their investigation.

"The case is now being handled by a new investigator since the former officers are no longer involved. The RAB team has revisited the crime scene, gathering information from local residents, neighbours, and shopkeepers," said the RAB official.

He anticipates submitting the investigation report to the court very soon.

RAB-11 Commander Lt Col Tanvir Mahmud Pasha, Major Anabil Imam, Additional Superintendent of Police Shahabuddin, and RAB-11 Media Officer Sanad Barua were present during the visit.

A total of 11 people, including Azmery, were involved in the killing of Taqi, according to a leaked probe report prepared by RAB within the first year of his death.

According to the leaked draft probe report of RAB, Azmery Osman and his accomplices abducted Taqi on 6 March 2013. They later tortured him, killed him and dumped his body in the Shitalakhya River the next day.

A day after his body was found, Taqi's A-level results were out. He had gotten the world's highest marks in physics in that exam, obtaining 297 out of 300.

His father  Rafiur Rabbi filed a case with the Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.

Later, on 18 March of that year, he submitted a supplementary complaint to the superintendent of police against seven people, including Shamim Osman, and 8-10 unnamed others.
