Home Affairs adviser urges Coast Guard to work diligently in preventing smuggling

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) has urged the Coast Guard to work sincerely to prevent smuggling by sea.

The adviser made this call in an exchange meeting with senior officers and sailors of the Bangladesh Coast Guard headquarters in the capital's Agargaon this morning (16 September).

He said, considering the needs of the country people, the government is not exporting hilsa to India this year. Also, despite the existing dollar crisis, the government has maintained the supply of fertilisers through imports.

However, there is a risk of hilsa and fertiliser being smuggled to neighbouring countries. So, as part of the main responsibility of the Coast Guard, the smuggling of various products including hilsa and fertiliser should be stopped by sea and waterways, he added.

Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) commended the force by saying though various law enforcement agencies have shown moral breakdown Coast Guard has shown no such sign and performed their duties well.

Among others, the Senior Secretary of the public security department of the Ministry of Home Affairs Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali and others were present at the exchange meeting. During the event the advisor was briefed about the various activities of the Coast Guard.
