Coast Guard seizes 2 oil tankers with 17,400 litres of hoarded diesel in Chattogram
Nine people allegedly involved in the illegal fuel trade were detained at the spot
Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard seized two oil tankers and around 17,400 litres of illegally stored diesel during a drive in Chattogram's Patenga area yesterday (13 May), detaining nine people allegedly involved in the illegal fuel trade.
According to the Coast Guard, the operation was conducted around 3am near the Red Buoy area of the Karnaphuli channel under Patenga Police Station based on a tip-off.
In a press release issued today (14 May), Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said personnel from Coast Guard Outpost Patenga intercepted the oil tanker OT Kurbaan Ali Shah while it was allegedly selling illegally stored diesel to another tanker, OT Sea Star.
During the drive, the Coast Guard recovered approximately 17,400 litres of diesel worth around Tk20 lakh and seized both tankers, the statement said.
Nine people allegedly involved in the illegal fuel trade were detained at the spot.
The Coast Guard said legal procedures against the detainees are underway, while the seized diesel and vessels remain in custody.
The force also said such drives against illegal fuel storage and smuggling would continue.
