The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) leaders today met Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

A high-level delegation of BGMEA led by its President Rafiqul Islam held the meeting at BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's Gulshan political office in the capital.

Expressing gratitude to BNP, BGMEA leaders said a vested quarter is making evil efforts to create unrest in the garments industry during the current interim government's tenure.

But BNP's leaders and workers of all levels including local ones extending support immediately to them in all places, the BGMEA leaders said adding the BNP men are safeguarding in some places too.

BNP's local leaders informed the BGMEA leaders that they have come forward to protect the garments industry as per the decision of the party at the directive of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Mirza Fakhrul assured the businessmen of talking to the home secretary to take necessary measures to intensify the security of the garments industry.

Addressing BGMEA leaders, the BNP Secretary General urged all to come forward to boost the country's economy and restore the political and democratic rights of the people.

Former Commerce Minister and BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Commerce Adviser and BNP's Vice-Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, BGMEA Senior Vice-President Abdullah Hil Rakib, Vice-President Rakibul Alam, Directors Shovon Islam, Nurul Islam and Absar Hossain, former BGMEA President SM Fazlul Haque, Kazi Munir, Mostafa Golam Kuddus,, BGMEA Standing Committee Chairman Kafil Ahmed and Abul Kalam were present, among others.
