One more Ansar member dies of Covid-19

Another member of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party, who earlier tested positive for Covid-19, died today.

Abdur Rauf, 55, died while undergoing treatment at his own residence in Gaibandha, according to an official of the force.  

He was an assistant platoon commander, and was carrying out duties at a mobile court camp at Bhanga area of Faridpur district before his death.

"Rauf went to his village home in Gaibandha on June 10 after taking a leave and tested positive on June 12," Mehnaz Tabassum Rabin, deputy director of the force, told the media. 

Rauf breathed his last around midnight while undergoing treatment at home, she said. 

"With the death of Rauf, the total number of deaths in the force has now risen to three." 

Rauf was buried at his family graveyard following the World Health Organisation protocols as per directives of Maj Gen Kazi Sharif Kaikobad, director general of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party. 

Meanwhile, around 26 members of the force tested positive in the last 24 hours, raising the number of infections to 478 today, according to a statement of the force. 

Of the infected members, five have the rank of officer, 139 are battalion Ansar members, 325 are general Ansar members, two staff members, two female Ansar members, two Village Defence Party members, and two special Ansar members, read the statement. 

Among them, 354 officials were discharging their duties in Dhaka and 124 others in different other districts. Along with these officials, around 86 Ansar members remain in home quarantine as they either came in contact with Covid-19 patients or showed symptoms. 

Besides, 297 Ansar members, who earlier tested positive, recovered till today and the recovery rate is around 62 percent, according to the statement.
