Two defamation cases were filed today (1 September) against 10 people including Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his son and group's Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

Diamond World Ltd Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala brought Tk1,000 crore defamation charges with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib against the accused.

Besides, former president of Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) Enamul Haque Khan Dolon filed a Tk100 crore defamation case with the same court.

After recording the statement of the complainant in the case filed by Agarwala, the court summoned the accused. It also asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter in the case filed by Dolon.

The other accused in the cases are- Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, acting Editor Abu Taher, Editor of The Daily Kaler Kantho, its Senior Reporter Haider Ali, CEO of East-West Media Group, Manager of East-West Media Group Abu Tayyab, Bangladesh Pratidin Reporter Ruhul Amin Russel, Kaler Kantho special correspondent Ripnul Hasan Ripon.
