With the slogan "Centre of Excellence," Bangladesh is set to establish its first-ever sports institute, a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. During a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud outlined the ambitious plans for this project, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize the country's sports landscape. "We are in discussions to create a sports institute that will offer specialized services and state-of-the-art facilities, developed in collaboration with renowned national and international sports institutions," Mahmud stated. He highlighted the institute's goal of producing athletes who meet international standards and achieving significant results on the global stage. "Countries like the United Kingdom, the United States, China, and France have demonstrated the success that comes from integrating sports with science. Bangladesh aims to reach similar heights through the establishment of the Bangladesh Sports Institute," Mahmud explained. While Bangladesh already has the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), established in the late 1980s, Mahmud emphasized the necessity of a more specialized institution. "BKSP serves up to the higher secondary level, but there is a gap when it comes to facilities for peak performance training. This new institute is designed to fill that void," he explained. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was also present at the briefing. He noted that the institute will bring together experts from both Bangladesh and abroad to train athletes, ensuring the highest quality of service and results. "The Ministry is fully committed to bringing this project to fruition as soon as possible. As a Centre of Excellence, the Bangladesh Sports Institute will be a significant asset to the sports community," Ahmed added. The sports adviser further mentioned that the ministry is undertaking various initiatives to ensure fairness and integrity in all areas of the sports arena, underscoring the broader vision to elevate Bangladesh's standing in international sports.
