The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA) to verify the audited financial reports filed in the electronic government procurement (e-GP) system.

The MoU was signed by BPPA CEO Md Shohelur Rahman Chowdhury and ICAB CEO Shubhashish Bose at CA Bhaban in Dhaka today (16 May), reads a press release.

Under the MoU, the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority will be given access to the document verification system to verify audited financial statements of tender participants in the eGP System.

ICAB President Mohammed Forkan Uddin, Vice President MBM Lutful Hadee, Vice President Maria Howlader, CEO Shubhashish Bose, former president and council member Md Moniruzzaman, former president and council member Mohammad Farooq, and council members Sidhartha Barua and Md Yasin Miah spoke at the signing event.

Alongside higher officials from the government and both the organisations, Chief Operating Officer of ICAB Mahbub Ahmed Siddique was also present.

Under the MoU, the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority will use the document verification system to verify whether the audit report and audited financial statements submitted by the registered tenderers and suppliers in the e-GP system have been certified by ICAB's CoP (certificate of practice) holder chartered accountants.

"The collaboration with the BPPA would bring financial discipline in the public procurement system of the country," ICAB says in the media release
