Cyclone Amphan: CPA stops unloading goods in jetty, outer anchorage
The vessels have been moved to safer places
The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has stopped unloading goods in the jetty and outer anchorage in the port to avoid the probable damage cyclone Amphan could inflict.
Mother vessels (large ship) have been moved to Kutubdia-Cox's Bazar coast whereas lighter ships and other small vessels have been moved upstream of Shah Amanat Bridge, informed Captain Faridul Alam, deputy conservator at the port.
The port authorities have hoisted cautionary signal number three after the Met office declared danger signal number six for the port. All ships were moved from the port by Tuesday morning, he said.
CPA Secretary Omar Faruk said goods unloading in outer anchorage stopped on Monday and offloading in jetties stopped on Tuesday morning. However, goods delivery to yards and container delivery to private depots were going on.

CPA made a plan about cyclone-disaster preparation and post-cyclone rehabilitation in 1992, according to which CPA declares four types of alerts based on the forecast made by the Met office.
CPA hoists alert one when Met office declares danger signal three. It hoist alert two when the danger signal number is four and alert three in case of danger signal number five, six and seven.
In case of great danger signal number eight, nine and 10, alert four is imposed, when all activities of the port are stopped.
