A mobile court today (7 March) fined the Labaid Specialized Hospital Tk2 lakh for housing an unauthorised eatery on its rooftop and spotting a gas leak in the kitchen cylinder.

A team of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) led by Executive Magistrate Md Jahangir Alam imposed the fine, after conducting a drive from 3pm to 5pm.

"During the drive, we discovered an eatery being operated illegally on the hospital's roof (7th floor) without permission which was not part of the original design.

"Moreover, issues were identified with the fire extinguishing system, and a gas leak was found in one of the five cylinders kept for kitchen use," Jahangir Alam told the media.

"Such activities pose a risk to the overall fire extinguishing system. Hence, the hospital authorities have been fined Tk2 lakh.

"The fine has been imposed under the Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Act, 2003," the magistrate added.

Earlier on the day, the mobile court conducted a drive at Green Road's Central Hospital Ltd.

No fines were imposed, as the court found a satisfactory environment upon inspecting the fire extinguishing system and the cafeteria conditions of the hospital.

Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Mohammad Fakhruddin, among others, were present during the operation.
