Tk55 lakh snatched from trader in capital

Muggers have snatched Tk55 lakh from a trader at Jonopath Mor of Jatrabari area in the capital on Sunday.

Mazharul Islam, officer in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari police station said, Saiful Islam, owner of Marfuz Enterprise, a Dutch Bangla Bank mobile banking agent, and his brother were going to Motijheel foreign exchange by motorbike carrying Tk55.69 lakh in two bags.

When they reached at Jonopath mor, a team of muggers – riding two motorbikes – swooped on and beat them up. The snatchers robbed the money from Saiful and escaped the scene by making some blank gun shots, added the OC.

"The victim has filed a case. Police have started investigation to arrest the gang and for recovering the money," Mazharul Islam said. 

They had already collected CTTV footage from the spot and hoped that the gang will be caught within short time, the police officer added.
