A Dhaka court yesterday sent Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Director Minhaz Mannan Emon and Didarul Islam Bhuiyan-an activist of a platform called 'Rashtrachinta' to jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

Ramna police earlier produced the defendants to the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court with a prayer seeking their remand for seven days.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested businessman and DSE Director Minhaz on May 6, following an anti-state propaganda lawsuit against him under the Digital Security Act.

Earlier on May 5, three others – including Cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore, Writer Mushtaq Ahmed, and Didarul Islam Bhuiyan – were arrested under the same act.

Besides these four, seven other people were accused in the lawsuit filed against them. They are: Asif Mohiuddin, Tasnim Khalil, Saer Zulkarnain, Shapan Wahid , Ashiq Imran, Shahed Alam, and Phillipp Schuhmacher.

Abu Zafar Mohamamd Rahmat Ullah, assistant police super of Rab-3, said that Minhaz was arrested from the capital's Bananai area.

Minhaz Mannan, the cousin of Education Minister Dipu Moni, is also the chief executive officer (CEO) of BLE Securities Limited, which is a member organisation of DSE.

In 2016, militants killed his brother LGBT activist Julhas Mannan.

Reportedly, Minhaj and other detainees were arrested over the accusation of their online propaganda posts, the details of which could not be known.

However, they were accused of promoting anti-state propagandas against the father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 1971 liberation war, and misleading people with rumors against the government's handling of coronavirus pandemic situation in Bangladesh.
