Six individuals in Brahmanbaria and four others in Khagrachhari were handed various jail terms on Sunday for their involvement in casting fraudulent votes at their respective polling stations.

Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of Khagrachhari Ahmed Hasan handed down the sentence through a mobile court in the morning.

The convicts in Khaggrachari are Md Zahid Hossain, 19, Md Shawkat Miah, 21, Md Phul Miah, 21, and Md Halim, 21. All of them are residents of the Fatema Nagar area of Panchari, said Panchari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Anjan Das.

They were arrested while casting fake votes at Bara Panchhari Government Primary School.

Meanwhile, in Brahmanbaria, six individuals were sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 7 days to 2 years after being apprehended at various polling centres for fraudulent voting, as confirmed by Returning Officer and District Magistrate Mohammad Habibur Rahman.

Identified detainees include Mohammad Shakikul Islam Ananto,18, and Mohammad Yusuf, 18, from Shantibag in the city area, apprehended at Ananda Government High School voting centre in Brahmanbaria-3 constituency.

Furthermore, in Durgapur Union of Ashuganj Upazila under Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) constituency, a juvenile detainee was given 7 days of imprisonment for attempting to vote at Khadiyala Government Primary School voting centre. 

Similarly, two individuals received a month-long imprisonment sentence for attempting fraudulent voting from Baruidha in the Sarail Upazila.

Additionally, at Sherpur Government Primary School center in Vijaynagar Upazila, one person attempting bogus voting was detained and sentenced to 7 days of imprisonment by the judicial court.
