Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute and Hospital will treat VIPs and diplomats who test positive for the Covid-19, said several sources.

One of the dedicated hospitals in Dhaka for treating novel coronavirus cases, the facility has yet to admit any patients.

Responding to a query, the facility's Director Professor Dr Faruque Ahmed told The Business Standard, "The health ministry has yet to give us any directive regarding the admission of Covid-19 patients in this hospital.

"The ministry said it will inform us about the matter soon."

Dr Faruque continued, "We have not received a formal letter instructing us on the type of patients who will be treated at this facility. However, diplomats visit our hospital and make inquiries. They also inform us when they get sick.

"The wife of a former minister recently came to the hospital after feeling ill. But there was no need for her to get admitted. Officials of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and American Embassy have visited the facility."

The 250-bed hospital has 120 beds and is ready to treat Covid-19 patients. Another eight beds have been installed at the intensive care unit and eight more will be installed soon, the hospital said.
