Grameen Kalyan offers healthcare services, food support during pandemic

Grameen Kalyan (GK) is providing primary healthcare services to almost 8 million underprivileged people in various regions of Bangladesh.

The organisation is distributing the aids through its 138 community-based healthcare centres across the country, said a press release today.

Each of the healthcare centres has enlisted six families to provide all with food items for meals, for the duration of the corona crisis period.

To reduce the marginalised people's suffering,  employees of GK contributed their one day's wage to fund one week's rations for 875 destitute families.

In addition to employees wages, Grameen Kalyan will support a total of 1,400 impoverished families from its own fund for the period April to June .

Along with continuing to provide healthcare services, GK commits to continue to provide food to destitute families until the Covid-19 crisis is over.

The organisation is also providing healthcare professionals in rural and semi-urban areas with personal protective equipment (PPE), masks and sanitization products.

The healthcare assistants of each healthcare center of GK have been trained to build Covid-19 responsiveness, emphasizing on frequent and correct hand-washing procedure, spraying germicides, also raising awareness about maintenance of personal hygiene, among local people.

They are also working tirelessly to serve general patients, as well as raise public awareness on the Covid-19 pandemic.

Grameen Kalyan has published and disseminated a special leaflet on Covid-19.
