Govt advises against non-essential travel to India amid rising Covid-19 risks
The DGHS has instructed all land, air, and sea ports in Bangladesh to enhance health screening and surveillance efforts

Amid a surge in infections from new sub-variants of Covid-19 in neighbouring India and several other countries, Bangladesh's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued a travel advisory urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to India.
The advisory, issued by the Communicable Disease Control (CDC) unit of the DGHS today (9 June), highlights the increasing spread of COVID-19 sub-variants such as Omicron LF.7, XFG, JN-1, and NB 1.8.1 in the region, reports Prothom Alo.
To mitigate this risk of transmission to Bangladesh through international travellers, the DGHS has instructed all land, air, and sea ports in Bangladesh to enhance health screening and surveillance at International Health Regulations (IHR) desks.
