An accident was reported on the Dhaka Elevated expressway on Friday night, just one week after it was open to the public.

An SUV (Honda Vezel, Dhaka Metro Gha-15-93) allegedly rear-ended a Toyota Axio sedan while it was parked on Kuril Point of the elevated expressway, said witnesses.

"We were experiencing our very first ride on the elevated expressway Friday night. We started from Uttara point. While we were crossing Kuril Point, an overspeeding SUV overtook our sedan and then rear-ended a Toyota Axio sedan which was parked there. The SUV driver managed to escape the sport leaving behind the SUV's number plate," said RM Jaber Hossain Ayon, a witness of the accident.

"The driver of the SUV seemed to be intoxicated as he was talking in an inappropriate manner," he added.

The Business Standard (TBS) could not reach out to any vehicle owners for comment.

Abdul Momen, deputy commissioner (traffic) of Gulshan Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told TBS that they had not received any official complaint.

"Once we get an official complaint, we can initiate legal proceedings," he added.
