A man died on his way to the union health complex for treatment on the Saint Martin's island on Tuesday morning.

People found the body on the roadside near Jinzira Primary School and were scared to bury him due to coronavirus fears, reports Prothom Alo.

Union Parishad Chairman Noor Ahmed told Prothom Alo, "The daughter of the deceased said the man was suffering from cold for the past two to three days."

"The locals were terrified by his sudden death. No one is going near the body. We have notified the upazila health department about the matter," added Noor.

The upazila health and family planning officer, Dr Titu Chandra Shil, told Prothom Alo, "A medical team has been sent to the spot. His burial will be done in accordance with the required safety regulations."

"Those who will take part in burial will be asked to stay in home quarantine for 14 days," Dr Titu added.
