A four-member high official team of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), led by its Chief Representative of Bangladesh Office Ichiguchi Tomohide visited the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) on Wednesday (16 August).

Other members of the delegation included Jica Senior Representative Mari Miura and Program Advisor Kubota Hiroaki, reads a press statement.

Vice-Chancellor of BSMRAU Prof Dr Md Giashuddin Miah welcomed the guests to the university and held a consultation meeting on the progress of BSMRAU and BSMRAU-Jica bilateral issues.

Prof Tofayel Ahamed, treasurer of the university gave a welcome speech in the meeting.

After the introduction session, a detailed presentation of BSMRAU progress and achievement in the light of Jica-IPSA-BSMRAU relationship was given by Director (Research), Prof Dr Md Abiar Rahman.

Speaking as the chief guest, Ichiguchi Tamuhide expressed his high satisfaction with the overall progress of BSMRAU and shed light on potential areas of future bilateral cooperation.

Also speaking on the occasion, BSMRAU VC expressed his gratitude for Jica's continued cooperation for overall development of this institute particularly former IPSA in achieving the top position of the university in the country and expressed hope that such cooperation would continue in the future.

After the formal discussion, the delegation visited the laboratories, library, classrooms, institutes, fields and other facilities of the university. The delegation has appreciated the educational and research programs conducted by the university and assured continued cooperation from the Jica in future.

At this time, Jica Senior Program Officer Md Mehdi Hasan, deans, senior professors, head of the departments, directors, proctor, provosts, library chief and related officials of the university were present on the occasion.
