DCC shopkeepers vandalise vehicles as cops free roads in Gulshan-1
DCC shopkeepers blocked Gulshan-1 this morning after the Dhaka North City Corporation sealed the GCC-1 market deeming it "risky"
Hundreds of shopkeepers and shop owners of the capital's DCC market blocked the Gulshan-1 intersection and vandalised vehicles as law enforcers intervened to disperse them on Thursday (13 July).
"They vandalised a few vehicles in the Gulshan area after police tried to disperse them from the road around 3:45pm," Mostafizur Rahman, assistant commissioner of Gulshan's Traffic Division, told The Business Standard.
"We requested them to free the roads, they denied and had heated arguments with the police. Now, the situation is normal," he said, adding some policemen were injured during the incident.

The DCC shopkeepers blocked the Gulshan-1 intersection this morning after the Dhaka North City Corporation sealed the GCC-1 market deeming it "risky" and terming it "archaic".
They said they took to the streets to protest the move which led to traffic movement being stalled in the area.
There were long tailbacks from Gulshan-2 to Gulshan-1, Mohakhali to Gulshan-1, Badda to Gulshan-1 and Tejgaon to Gulshan-1, as a result of which, all internal streets were blocked too.
