Railway communication with Sylhet was suspended after Sylhet-bound Udayan Express derailed in Moulvibazar's Kamolganj upazila, following its collision with a tree which was tilted on the rail tracks due to a storm last night.

The incident took place in the Lauachhara forest around 5am on Saturday (20 May) where two compartments and the locomotive of the train got derailed, Srimangal Railway Station Master Shakhawat Hossain confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

"The train coming from Chattogram was derailed in the middle of Lauachhara sanctuary putting passengers in trouble," he said, adding that no casualty was reported in the incident.

According to the station master, the train collided with a fallen tree in the forest, which was down on the railway track following a storm last night.

Speaking to The Business Standard, Railway Kulaura Deputy Assistant Engineer Anisuzzaman hoped that the rescue work may be completed by 3pm.

A rescue train from Kulaura began the rescue work at 9am. Later, another relief train from Akhaura joined the rescue mission after 11am.
