Breach of condition will result in suspension of Khaleda’s release: Attorney General

Khaleda Zia has been released from jail for six months, but the release order will be cancelled if she breaches any of the conditions the government has put in place, says Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

He further added that the prime minister released Khaleda Zia on humanitarian grounds, however, that does not give her the power to act according to her wishes during this conditional release.

Under the conditions, she has to stay home and cannot travel abroad.

Furthermore, if Khaleda Zia were to participate in any political activities or give political speeches during these six months, her release clause will be suspended immediately.

The Attorney-general made these comment while talking to reporters at his office in the Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon.

He said Khaleda's sentence of 17 years for two cases has been suspended for six months. However, after six months, Khaleda will have to surrender at court before returning to jail again.

Additionally, Khaleda Zia can also request an extension of her release term, which the government can extend if it wants.

The Attorney General further said that Khaleda has to appear at court for any ongoing cases against her, while proceedings of these cases continue.

Last Tuesday, the government decided to suspend Khaleda's 17-year sentence for six months.
