Bangladesh has confirmed the fifth death, a 65-year-old man, from the novel coronavirus in last 24 hours in the country.

"The man was diabetics and hypertension patient. He was tested positive with the virus on March 18. He was initially kept in quarantine in a local hospital, later was shifted to Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital on March 21. He died there today morning," the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora made the disclosure in a press briefing today.

The IEDCR director also said they detected no new case of coronavirus in the country.

There are 47 patients in isolation units of different hospitals and 47 are in institutional quarantine, she added.

People are requested to call two hotline numbers - 01944333222 & 10655 that will divert the calls to available 17 helpline numbers of IEDCR and NSU Public Health Department. People can reach out IEDCR via email and Facebook too.

IEDCR yesterday received 2,730 calls and all calls were about Covid-19. 82 patients were tested in last 24 hours and 794 tested so far in the country.

IEDCR confirmed first death from coronavirus infection on March 18, second on March 21, third on March 23 and fourth death on March 24.

The total number of infected patients is now 39 in the country.
