Dhaka University (DU) authorities will sit in an emergency meeting on Monday to take a decision about postponement of academic activities amid coronavirus fears.

DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman told reporters on Sunday that the decision will be made considering the national interest. "We'll decide what to do to tackle the situation," he said.

Faculty deans, directors of all institutes, heads of all the departments and hall provosts have been asked to attend the emergency meeting at 10am, said the VC who will chair the meeting.

Meanwhile, Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) recommended that the university be shut down temporarily or summer vacation be announced a bit earlier.

It submitted a memorandum to the VC after a meeting in this regard.

Besides, DU Teachers' Association and Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association also issued separate statements expressing concerns over the coronavirus outbreak and demanding shutdown of universities.
