On October 7 last year, Buet student Abrar Fahad was beaten to death by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall.

A month later, on November 30 last year, MD Wahiduzaman, investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka, accusing 25 Buet students.

Later on January 13, the trial was shifted to the Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge's Court from Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
