BNP leader Ishraque, 317 others sued for 'attacking police' during Golapbagh rally

BNP Central Committee Member Ishraque Hossain and 17 other leaders were sued in a case with the Jatrabari Police Station on charges of assaulting police and vandalism in the Jatrabari area during the Golapbag rally.

300 more unidentified BNP activists were also accused in the case.

Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector Nowsher Ali filed the case on Sunday midnight and no one has been arrested in the case yet, he confirmed to The Business Standard.

Some of the 17 named accused are BNP Dhaka South Senior Joint Convener Nabiullah Nabi, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Vice President Pavel Sikder, and BNP leaders Jamsedul Alam Shaymol, Raisul Hasan and Shuvo Hasan Babu, according to Jatrabari Police Station Inspector (investigation) Mohitul Alam.

"The accused brought out a procession, hurled crude bombs, attacked police and barred them from performing duties during the Golapbagh rally of BNP on 10 December," Mohitul Alam told The Business Standard.

Earlier on 4 December, Ishraque was allegedly attacked by the Chhatra League activists near the Jagannath University in Old Dhaka when he was distributing rally leaflets there.

Ishraque's car was vandalised and six to seven BNP activists were also injured in the attack.
