Build trustee board members meet principal secretary to PM

Trustee board members of Business Initiative Leading Development (Build) met Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Kaikaus on Wednesday at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The principal secretary and Build trustee board members discussed how the Private Sector Development Policy Coordination Committee (PSDPCC) under the PMO can help in policy reform, policy research and advocacy for private sector development.

Build Chairperson Abul Kasem Khan led his delegation and presented a brief description of his organisation before the talk.

He said that the Build has so far tabled 785 policy reform recommendations to the PSDPCC. Of them, 376 reforms have been approved, 238 have already been implemented, 124 are under implementation and 316 are under review.

The Build is a unified voice of the private sector representatives of Bangladesh. It acts as the bridge that connects the private and public sector for better communication, coordination and collaboration in bringing reforms to improve the country's investment climate.

Shams Mahmud, president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), said that they need good policies to be implemented to harness the benefits of development. He also urged the government to extend support to the local investment along with the foreign direct investment.

Principal Secretary to the PM Dr Ahmad Kaikaus said that the PSDPCC needs to suggest investment-friendly policies.

He also said policy to address the capital market should be a major area for the PSDPCC to look into.
