One ticket sold twice, Shohoz fined Tk2.15 lakh

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined Shohoz Limited, the ticket selling company of Bangladesh Railways, Tk2.15 lakh, the complaint of selling one ticket to two customers having been proved.

The decision was taken by the consumer rights protection agency after a hearing in the presence of complainants and representatives of Shohoz at the head office of the directorate on Wednesday.

According to the DNCRP, the complainant, Biswajit Saha, bought a ticket online for seat No J-29 on the Chitra train to go from Ishwardi to Ullapara. But when he got on the train, he saw another passenger in his seat. The ticket the passenger had was also valid. But when Biswajit Saha told the ticket checker of the train about the matter, the ticket checker verbally abused him, accusing him of using a fake ticket.

So he complained to the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.

According to the department, after reviewing everything, it was found the same ticket (J-29) on the same train for the same time was sold to two passengers, meaning the promised product or service was not properly delivered.

As such, for negligence and irresponsibility, Shohoz was fined Tk40,000 under Section 45 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009, and Tk1.75 lakh under Section 53 of the same Act.

Based on the complaint, the hearing was conducted by Abdul Jabbar Mandal, assistant director of the Dhaka district office of the DNCRP.

Earlier, Shohoz.com was fined Tk2 lakh against a complaint by Mohiuddin Roni, a student of Dhaka University.

Mohiuddin Roni did a sit-in protest for 12 consecutive days at Kamalapur Railway Station, protesting Bangladesh Railway mismanagement.
