Twenty-six noted citizens of the country on Sunday sought Prime Minister Hasina's intervention to expedite the trial proceedings of Tanvir Muhammad Taqi murder case.

In a joint statement, they said, "Tanvir Ahmed Taqi's brutal murder will mark seventh year on March 6 this year, but the charge-sheet of the case has not been submitted yet."

Within one year into the murder, the investigating agency claimed, in a press conference, that they had solved the murder case, they added.

Despite revelation of the place, time and cause of the murder, the investigating agency has not submitted the charge-sheet in the case yet.

Not completing trial of the case is encouraging the criminals and calling the independent judiciary system into question. This is not desirable in an independent country, said the eminent citizens.

Language hero Ahmed Rafiq, National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman, Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University (DU) Serajul Islam Chowdhury, Dr Sanjida Khatun, noted journalist Kamal Lohani, educationist and writer Hasan Azizul Haque, Dr Hayat Mamud, Syed Abul Maksud, Dr Syed Anwar Hossain, Advocate Sultana Kamal, Syed Manzoorul Islam, Mofidul Haque, Professor Anu Muhammad, and Professor MM Akash, among others, signed the statement.

Seventeen-year-old Tanwir Muhammad Taqi went missing after he had left home for Sudhijon Pathagar, a library in Narayanganj city, around 4 pm on March 6, 2013.

Taqi's body was found floating in the Shitalakkhya on March 8.

Taqi's father Rafiur Rabbi filed a general dairy with Narayanganj Kotwali Police Station on the day Taqi went missing. He filed a murder case with the same police station on the day the body was found.
