RAB to submit charge sheet soon in Taqi murder case after 12 years
The agency says probe has been completed
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-11 has announced that it will soon submit a charge sheet in the long-pending murder case of Tanvir Muhammad Taqi, the 17-year-old student killed in Narayanganj in 2013.
"The investigation has been completed," said RAB-11 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel H M Sajjad Hossain at a press briefing in Karwan Bazar yesterday.
He described the case as "sensitive," adding that further investigations had been conducted, during which several suspects were arrested and interrogated, revealing key information.
Taqi's father, Rafiur Rabbi, said the next court hearing is scheduled for 29 November and expressed hope that the charge sheet would be submitted by then.
Despite 12 years having passed since Taqi's murder, the charge sheet has yet to reach court. However, following the political change on 5 August last year, several accused were arrested, reviving progress in the case.
Azmeri Osman, son of late lawmaker AKM Nasim Osman and nephew of former MP Shamim Osman, has been named the prime accused in the case.
While Azmeri is absconding, the RAB in September arrested five other suspects in the murder case. They are Yaar Mohammad aka Parvez, Safayet Hossain Shipon, Mamun Mia, Kajol Howlader, and Jamshed Sheikh.
According to the confessional statement of accused Kajol Howlader, Taqi was tortured and killed in the presence of Azmeri Osman at the latter's Winner Fashion office on Allama Iqbal Road in Narayanganj. Kajol made the confession before the court on 15 September last year, after a five-day remand under RAB-11 supervision.
Taqi went missing on 6 March 2013 after leaving home for Sudhijon Pathagar, a local library in Narayanganj, around 4pm.
His body was found floating in the Shitalakkhya River two days later, on 8 March.
His father initially filed a general diary with Narayanganj Kotwali Police Station when Taqi went missing and lodged a murder case with the same station after his body was recovered.
