LGRD minister announces reward for commissioners of dengue-free wards

Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam announced awards for the Commissioners of Aedes mosquitoe-free wards on Sunday aiming to restrict the persistent increase of Dengue infection.

The minister came up with the announcement while launching an anti-mosquito crash programme at Azimpur in the city where all the top officials including DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon and Ward Commissioners were present.

Ward Commissioners who will be able to eliminate the number of Dengue infections in their areas will get chance of receiving training abroad, he said.

“The winning Ward Commissioners will get the chance of receiving training abroad next year,” he said.

He asked all the ward councilors and city corporation officials to work properly to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitos.

He also urged all the teachers of educational institutes and Imams of mosques to spread awareness about the mosquito menace.  

Under the crash programme mosquito-killing medicines will be sprayed twice a day in the areas.

He also urged people not to be terrified over the matter, stating that “Dengue has been a common problem in other Asian countries as well.”

As of Sunday, 2,921 dengue patients are being treated in hospitals across the country for dengue.

From January 1 to Sunday, there have been 11,654 confirmed dengue cases. Eight of them died, according to the government.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection, which spread to people through the bite of infected Aedes aegypti species of mosquito.
