Audition is going on to find the lead actor who will play the iconic character of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the upcoming biopic "Bangabandhu", but no one has been finalised yet.

Popular faces such as Tariq Anam Khan, Ahmed Rubel, Arifin Shuvoo and Siam Ahmed auditioned for Bangabandhu's role.

On the other hand, Dibya Joti and Shoumya Joti, sons of prominent artists Brindabon Dash and Shahnaz Khushi, auditioned for the role of teenage Bangabandhu.

Renowned Bollywood director Shyam Benegal is directing the much-awaited biopic.

A senior artist who auditioned for Bangabandhu's role told The Business Standard a series of auditions were done and Shyam carefully monitored get-up and speaking styles.

"I was told to deliver the historic March 7 speech and to put on a moustache. However, nothing has been finalised yet," he said.

"I would be extremely delighted if I get to be a part of this movie. I am eagerly waiting to play the character on screen," he added.

A Ministry of Information official who is connected to the film said, "Nobody has yet been finalised. Everybody is in the second phase of audition. Only Shyam has the authority to finalise the cast."

Shooting of the film is scheduled to start in April and the audition is being carefully supervised by Shyam himself at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation.

A high level of secrecy is being maintained throughout the audition. The first phase of the audition was done in Kolkata and Mumbai, and the second phase is going on in Dhaka.

The final phase of the shooting will be done in September. Sets will be made in the scenic areas of Manikganj and Munshiganj where everything will be arranged to portray Bangabandhu's era.

Shamima Nazneen auditioned for the role of Bangabandhu's wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib while Dilara Zaman and Khairul Alam Sabuj auditioned for the roles of Bangabandhu's parents.

Meanwhile, Jaya Ahsan and Nusrat Imrose Tisha auditioned for the role of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina.

Bahauddin Khelon from Bangladesh and Shyam Rawat from India are the film's casting directors.

The audition will end on February 10th.
