Neo JMB’s female wing chief remanded

A Dhaka court today placed militant outfit Neo JMB's female wing chief Asmani Khatun alias Asma on 3-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim granted the remand when police's Counter Terrorism and Transitional Crime (CTTC) Inspector Sohrab Hossain produced her before the court with 10-day remand plea.

Asmani Khatun, 28, was arrested on Tuesday from Dhaka's north Kamalapur area by a CTTC team.

Asmani was connected with fellow militants online using different pseudonyms, said CTTC assistant commissioner SK Imran Hossain.

The CTTC official said Asma had been secretly recruiting female members online for a long time after becoming chief of the female wing.

Many operatives, who had left their homes to join militant activities through her persuasion, were arrested earlier, the police official added.

Asma was also linked online with top "Neo JMB" leaders including Islam Al Hindi, Abu Dujana and Abu Mohammed.

CTTC officials further said Asma, accompanied by four to five other unknown persons, gathered at Kamalapur area on Tuesday as part of their plans to carry out subversive activities and destroy public properties.

Police are conducting raid to arrest Asma's associates who are still on the run.

A case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Motijheel Police Station in this regard.
