Virtual Museum Bangladesh, a platform developed to cater for audiences of all ages, will be launched Monday (28 February), with a view to presenting the country's rich history and heritage all over the world in virtual reality.

Even children can enjoy contents on different archaeological sites and gather practical experience and knowledge about the heritage of Bangladesh.

The inaugural ceremony will be held at Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Auditorium of the National Museum.

Prime Minister's Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, is scheduled to present at the ceremony as chief guest, said a press release issued by Expressive Communications Limited yesterday.

The organiser hopes that this flagship project will play a significant role in spreading the rich history and heritage of Bangladesh all over the world.

Work on the virtual museum began in mid-2017. In the meantime, six different archaeological sites have been added as immersive virtual reality content to the virtual museum, said the press release.

Anyone can download the app from the website virtualmuseumbd.com and experience the six virtual illustrations with just one VR headset. Besides, each archaeological content can be explored on the website as a 360-degree tour even without a VR handset.

The heritage sites available in the virtual museum are Shat Gambuj Mosque in Bagerhat, Choto Shona Mosque in Chapainawabganj, Baro Sardar Bari in Sonargaon, Eleven Shiva Temple in Jashore, Panam Nagar in Narayanganj and Kantajew temple in Dinajpur.

SM Ruhul Amin, additional inspector general of Bangladesh Police, will be present as special Guest, while Mofidul Haque, trustee at Liberation War Museum, and Dr Shahnewaz, professor at Department of Archeology, Jahangirnagar University, will also be present at the event.
