52 gold bars, 290 cartons of cigarettes seized at Ctg airport

Customs officials have seized 52 pieces of gold bars and 290 cartons of contraband cigarettes from the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram city on Sunday. 

Riyadul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Custom House's Airport unit, said acting on a tip off, they conducted a drive on arrival of a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and recovered the gold bars and cigarettes in an abandoned condition from the boarding bridge of the airport. 

The BG-148 flight of the national flag carrier coming from Dubai landed at the airport at 8:45am.

The market price of the seized gold bars, weighing around 6.08 kilograms, is estimated around Tk3.6 crore. 

A case will be filed under the Customs Act in this connection, the Deputy Commissioner added.
